Scholarship

The purpose of the grant program is to contribute financial support to Chapter student members during their academic career.  A student may not receive more than one scholarship or grant from the Chapter while enrolled at HSU.

Up to two scholarships or grants will be awarded each year.  One will be to an undergraduate wildlife student and the second will be to a graduate wildlife student.

Criteria

Each grant or scholarship recipient must:

be a current Chapter Member
be an enrolled student at HSU
show promise as a wildlife professional
attend a section or national meeting.
volunteer to help at Western Section or at a local workshop
attend a local chapter meeting or mixer before receiving money

Proposal Process

The award amount will depend on current Chapter finances and will be subject to Board approval.

A one-page minimum written proposal shall be submitted to the Awards Committee Chair.  The proposal shall:

briefly describe the proposed use of the awarded funds and demonstrate the student’s financial need
include a letter of recommendation from a professor at HSU
include a copy of the student’s HSU academic record and GPA

After receipt of the proposal, the Chapter Executive Board or Awards Committee will conduct an interview with the applicant.

Travel Grant Program

The purpose of the travel grant program is to provide financial support to Chapter student members to offset a portion of the costs of travel to TWS and other professional society meetings.  Between $100 and $200 per meeting may be provided, but the award amount will depend on current Chapter finances and will be subject to Board approval.  Grants may be provided to either undergraduate or graduate students.  Travel grants are intended to reimburse actual expense; therefore, receipts must be provided prior to disbursement of the travel grant.  Students traveling as part of a Quiz Bowl or Conclave team already funded by the Chapter are not eligible for additional travel grant funds.

Criteria

Each grant or scholarship recipient must:

be a current Chapter Member
be an enrolled student at HSU or College of the Redwoods
must volunteer to help at the meeting attended (if Western Section or TWS meeting)
provide a copy of the meeting registration receipt
show promise as a wildlife professional
attend a local chapter meeting or mixer before receiving money

Proposal Process

A one-page minimum written proposal shall be submitted to the Awards Committee Chair prior to the date set by the Chapter Executive Board for the meeting.

The proposal shall:

briefly demonstrate the student’s financial need
include contact information for an HSU or CR professor

After receipt of the proposal, the Chapter Executive Board or Awards Committee will conduct an interview with the applicant.
